Second Experience: Excellent Blend of Truffle Oil and Noodle

Since last week we have info about this quite famous place named Tokyo Belly. Right after we’ve finished the First Experience, we decided to choose the Belly as our next stopover. Weekend come, then we rush to Grand Indonesia. Walking, walking, walking, RUN! Suddenly it’s raining. And we imagine a bowl of hot meals would be nice to bring our mood up.

A giant Daruma welcomes us in front of Tokyo Belly site. Luckily, we’ve got a table directly. Right after we sit, POOF! A long queue of waiting list appears. Too crowded for after-lunchtime, we think. Hope for the best food will loaded our round tummy.

Tokyo Belly has an open place dining inside of Grand Indonesia. You can see in from outside without bothering other customers. Wooden plank (look alike) spreading almost all of its wall and makes the place felt warm. You will find the wall are muraled with Japanese things: stork, Japanese letters, daruma, etc. Dim yellow lighting with many origami inspired ornaments adds some comfy to ambience. Too bad the tables arrangement is too narrow to walking here and there. You will also find private rooms for some personal occasions and it’s suitable for family with children. Kids’ menu and corner table safety are available here.

Our guest stars today.

Enough with the ambience, let’s talk about foods! Tokyo Belly has many varieties of menus. Most of them are Japanese food with a touch of modernization, likes Japanese Pasta, cheese usage in some menus, fusion here, fusion there, and many more.

Thick spicy Japanese curry.

First comer is Chicken Curry Katsu. Like other Japanese curry, Tokyo Belly’s curry has a thick, but runny texture with big pieces of carrots and slices of chicken katsu on top. Served on wooden bowl makes its appearance warmer and more appealing. It comes with four levels of spicy from no spicy at all to extreme spicy. We don’t fond of spicy, at least one of us can’t stand that spicy sensation, so we pick a mild one. First spoonful, we can smell the spices in it. Rich curry flavor mixed well with hot rice and wet katsu (yes, it’s not crispy), comes a great taste of it. We can feel the spices, just like how it smells, the spiciness, the savoury, all of them in a mouthful. Unfortunately, we run out the curry sauce at the end of this meal. Maybe it has a little amount of curry sauce or maybe we spoon it too much at first. We recommend this dish as a good choice!

Melted cheese and mayo potato.

Mentai Baked Potato is our second meal. Thin slices of potatoes are arranged well at a-wok-look-alike-plate with cheese, mayonnaise, and a slight of spices on top of them. Great smells fill us up as we start to this potato. There is no flavor other than salty and savoury. It has a thin layer flavor with full of mayo and its aroma is the hero. We suggest you to eat it fast while the meal is hot. Heavy taste will linger longer than we think, too heavy. Very recommended (while it’s hot).

An excellent blend of truffle oil and noodle.

Our last dish is Belly Mie. It looks like fried noodle without soy sauce and all its ingredients are neatly arranged on top of it: half-cooked egg, grilled chicken, pieces of leek, slices of nori (or seaweed), dancing fish slices, and kitsune (fried sprinkles). The key of Belly Mie is truffle oil that sits on the bottom of bowl. So, don’t forget to mix all of it before you eat. This truffle oil makes the whole dish comes with more aromas, dancing in your mouth while it strengthen the flavor, together with savoury, crunchy, salty, and a slight of sweet taste. When you order it, we can choose one of four noodle type: thick & curly, red & hot, thin & slim, charcoal & healthy. Ours is thick and curly. As you can think, the noodle is thick with al dente cook level. We totally recommend this meal!
